Sales of Apple Watch on track for the best quarter this holiday season

Following IDC's report on fitness trackers dominating the wearables market, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed to Reuters that the Apple Watch is actually doing pretty well.

In an email reply to Reuters, Cook stated that sales of the Apple Watch set a record during the first week of holiday shopping and the current quarter is on track to be the best ever for the smart watch. As Apple does not reveal exact sales figures of the smart watch, such comments give analysts and investors the best indicator of the gadget's popularity with consumers.

Reuters - "Our data shows that Apple Watch is doing great and looks to be one of the most popular holiday gifts this year," Cook wrote.

"Sales growth is off the charts. In fact, during the first week of holiday shopping, our sell-through of Apple Watch was greater than any week in the product’s history. And as we expected, we’re on track for the best quarter ever for Apple Watch," he said.

Analysts and investors were skeptical that Apple Watch will become a substantial revenue stream for the company as sales of the iPhone slow down. KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo estimated that sales of the Apple Watch could decline this year due to the lack of killer apps, short battery life, the dependency on the iPhone, and touch-screen usability issues with wearables. However, it seems that such fears are unfounded for now.
