Rumor: AMD to Ship Next Gen High-End Hawaii-Based GPUs in October
AMD is reportedly making plans to ship its next generation high-end GPUs in October this year. The upcoming GPUs are codenamed "Hawaii". Apparently, the company will be bypassing the Sea Islands GPUs that were next in line to replace the current AMD Radeon HD 7000 series GPUs.
According to DigiTimes, add-in graphics cards manufacturers ASUS, MSI and PowerColor are expected to ship Hawaii-based graphics cards in October this year. Hence, the price cuts announced by AMD last month for its current generation of Radeon HD 7000 series graphics cards, may be attributed to the new GPU's upcoming launch. The observers, who spoke with DigiTimes, said that NVIDIA will most likely adopt a wait-and-see approach before announcing any price cuts to its graphics cards.
