Rumor: AMD Add-in Manufacturers Working on Radeon HD 7970 X2

It is reported that these partners are unwillingly to wait any further for AMD Radeon HD 7990 GPU to be made available, they have taken matters into their own hands to launch this customized dual-GPU graphics card. It is believed that PowerColor will be the first-off-the-blocks with their PowerColor Radeon HD 7970 X2 as a response to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690.

The PowerColor Radeon HD 6970 X2 was unveiled at Computex 2011. Notice the different cooler fan sizes? PowerColor claims that the differences help to drive the air towards the rear of the chassis, leading to improved airflow. It remains to be seen if PowerColor will launch their Radeon HD 7970 X2 at this year's Computex.

Given that there's no other high-end GPU variant being launched now and that AMD sorely needs a combatant to NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 690, Computex 2012 which is just around the corner seems to be the perfect platform to launch or at least announce and acknowledge the forthcoming arrival of these ultra high-end graphics cards. Stay tuned as we bring you more updates from the show floor the following week.
