Replace all your passwords with images using Passage

You know the drill by now. Somebody, somewhere, creates a malware or finds a loophole and exposes security vulnerabilities in a system. As a result, you have to change your password. Again.

Enter Passage. Short for Password Image, Passage is currently only in the prototype stage but it already looks promising.

It works pretty much the same as a password, except you assign an image (or images) instead of a password to a site (or an app) that uses Passage. Next time you want to log in, you just scan the same image. If the image matches what's on record, you get access.

The team's working on expanding the idea by using smartphones as well if you don't have ready access to a webcam. By linking the Passage app to your registered desktop, you can scan your image on your phone and log in via the PC.

One wonders if it's possible to simply use live visual recognition instead of images. Then again, that might not be possible considering the exact conditions for the original image might not be possible to duplicate. Also, there are other issues to consider as well. How long will it take to recognize the image? What's the error margin? Can it detect fakes created using Photoshop?

Hopefully the team can flesh out this concept and maybe one day, we'll finally be rid of having to remember all the different passwords we use.

If you're interested in trying it out, keep an eye out using the news source link below as an Alpha version of the app will be posted there within the next few weeks.
