The Remix ultra-tablet and Remix OS is the first productivity oriented Android-based tablet

The Remix ultra-tablet has an uncanny appearance to another familiar tablet, but its OS will probably make it unique.

Tablet varieties are aplenty, but at CES 2015, Jide Technology will be launching a new kind of Android tablet called the Remix ultra-tablet.

The secret sauce that would differentiate it against the sea of Android tablets is its use of a re-worked OS designed around Android 4.4.2. Dubbed the Remix OS, it is designed with productivity and content creation in mind to fashion a tablet that can replace a laptop. To that end, they claim that it's optimized for larger screens, supports traditional input devices like keyboard and mouse, has a taskbar, supports smooth multi-tasking and multi-window capabilities, while still being an Android device at heart with all that you've come to know and like in Android, including its wide app ecosystem.

As such, the Remix ultra-tablet is specced like a powerful tablet, but it's larger with a full HD 11.6-inch screen, has a dual-angle integrated kickstand, a magnetic connection keyboard attachment, magnetic charging port, microSD card expansion, dual microphones, front and rear 5MP cameras.

At this juncture, it's hard not to point out that it looks and has features that seem very similar to the Microsoft Surface 2. In fact, the Remix ultra-tablet is also running on the NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and has 2B of RAM and 64GB of eMMC internal storage - just like the Surface 2, but with its own variant of the Android OS.

Can the Remix ultra-tablet do a better job than the Microsoft Surface 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 tablets? At an estimated price of US$449 and a slightly heavy 860 grams weight, we'll have to give it a try before we can pass a verdict. Since the Tegra 4 isn't a powerful processor in this day and age, one can probably assume its capabilities, but the real factor that would make or break the product is the Remix OS itself and we hope it lives up to its marketing as seen in this video snippet below. Meanwhile, stay tuned as we bring you further updates from CES 2015.
