PSA: Your Microsoft Surface Pro power cord could be a fire risk
If you own a Microsoft Surface Pro 1, 2 or 3, be extra careful with its power cord. According to Channelnomics, Microsoft is planning a voluntary recall for the power cords on every Surface Pro tablet released before the Pro 4. The tech giant warns that the power cable is prone to overheating and could trigger a fire if it's wound too tightly or otherwise damaged. The recall reportedly applies to all devices sold before 15 July 2015.
A Microsoft spokesperson issued the following statement regarding the matter: "As a result of damage caused by AC power cords being wound too tightly, twisted or pinched over an extended period of time, a very small proportion of Surface Pro customers have reported issues with their AC power cord. We will be releasing details of how customers can obtain a free replacement cable shortly."
According to Channelnomics, eligible customers wishing to obtain a replacement will, as of Friday, be directed to a specially constructed website, where they can order one.
We've reached out to Microsoft Singapore for information on how Singapore customers who have purchased a Surface Pro 1, 2 or 3 can receive their replacement cable and will update as soon as we have more information.
