According to MSPoweruser, they managed to get a sneak preview of Microsoft’s Project Neon, and its upcoming changes to the Windows 10 UI. Project Neon isn’t touted to be a major update to the existing user interface; however, it builds on the current one, with some incremental updates.

Project Neon will emphasize “animations, simplicity, and consistency - essentially bringing back Windows 7’s Aero Glass and mixing it up with animations like the ones from the Windows Phone 8/7 era.” One new component is “Acrylic”, which is blurred overlay that can appear is the background, sidebar, or within a supported application.

MSPoweruser also reported Microsoft demonstrated how Acrylic worked with the Groove Music application by showing off the Conscious UI and Connected Animations effects. Besides changes to the traditional desktop UI, Project Neon will also focus on “3D and HoloLens interactions.” The web portal also claimed the animation effects of Project Neon were “stupendously smooth.” But its exclusive report did caution about being too hopeful as Project Neon is still work-in-progress and some of its purposed features may not see the day of light. In the meantime, fans of Windows 10 OS can look forward to Creators Update (also known as RedStone 2) to the current Windows OS that is coming this April, following which RedStone 3 will be released later this year, with an alleged focus on “innovations around mobile phones.”
