Pentax Introduces Mirrorless System Camera K-01

Pentax has officially announced the K-01, a new mirrorless system camera. The camera is designed by Marc Newson, a London-based industrial designer who has designed a wide range of products from furniture to yachts, and has had work displayed in The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York City (the designer's autograph logo is stamped on the bottom of each K-01).

Key features of the new camera include a aluminum frame, compatibility with existing Pentax K-mount lenses, a 16MP APS-C sensor, Full-HD 1080/30p video capture, a 6 frames per second burst mode and sensitivity from ISO100-25,600. Pentax is also launching a very thin pencake lens which it's calling "the world's thinnest interchangeable lens", the Pentax-DA 40mm F2.8 XS.

Pentax had introduced the Pentax Q last year in June, which used a mount smaller than the Pentax K system. The K-01 will be available in yellow, black and white in March, for US$749.95 (body only) and US$899.95 (lens kit including the new 40mm pancake lens).
