Pebble App Store Arrives on iOS, Android Version Coming 'Very, Very Soon'
A week after shipping the Pebble Steel, and as promised back in December, the Pebble app store has now gone live with more than 1,000 apps and watch faces. Accessed via the new Pebble 2.0 app (which also sports a revamped UI) on an iOS or Android device, it solves the biggest problem facing Pebble users to date, which is the need to comb through third-party websites to find apps and watch faces.
As Pebble explains:
Until now, Pebble users discovered apps and watch faces through several awesome third party resources like MyPebbleFaces. The Pebble app store changes all this by providing a simple one-stop-shop for you to discover, manage, and install apps and watch faces.
The app store has separate sections for watch apps and watch faces, with the former being further divided into six categories, such as Daily, Tools & Utilities, Notifications, Remotes, Fitness, and Games. A ‘Locker’ feature lets you store your favorite apps and watch faces so that it’s easy to load and unload them from the Pebble (because the smartwatch only has room for eight). The company also said that they will be curating the app store every day.
The new Pebble app for iOS is already available on the Apple App Store. The Android app is coming ‘very, very soon’. If you simply can’t wait, and are a registered Pebble developer, you can download the latest Android beta that has the Pebble app store from the developer portal.
