Oracle Hires HP's Former CEO Mark Hurd as Co-President

Would HP's past come back to haunt them? That may well be the thoughts of HP's current leadership after learning that Oracle's head honcho, Lawrence Ellison, has just hired its former CEO, Mark Hurd as co-president. Forced to resign just a month ago, Mr Hurd will be tasked to manage sales, marketing and software support at Oracle, which could emerge as a fierce rival to HP in the database hardware market, especially with its acquisition of Sun.

NY Times - In naming Mark V. Hurd, the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, as Oracle’s new co-president, Lawrence J. Ellison, Oracle’s chief executive and largest shareholder, has put his money where his controversial mouth is. Late on Monday, Oracle announced that Mr. Hurd had joined the company as a president and a director. Mr. Hurd resigned from H.P. one month ago, after an investigation by the board into a personal relationship with a contractor turned up questionable expense reports.
