You may call it a tagline or a blog post title, but OnePlus certainly knows how to market the upcoming OnePlus 2 smartphone.

In a blog post titled "Ahead of its time: 2016 flagship killer", OnePlus describes how the OnePlus 2 was not designed to compete with flagship smartphones of 2015. Instead, the company is committed to "looking further into the future"; its OyxgenOS will come with features that are not available on other devices until Android M.

While OnePlus did not elaborate on the features, it states that the OnePlus 2 is "more than specs" where hardware, software and design are packed into "a total, forward-thinking package with features that matter to our users".

If you look back at how Google previewed Android M at I/O 2015 in May, perhaps that would give a glimpse of what to expect from the OnePlus 2. Here's an overview of Android M's new features:

  • more granular app permissions
  • Chrome Custom Tabs
  • Android Pay
  • Doze, a new battery saving tool
  • Native USB Type-C support

The official list of specs for the OnePlus 2 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, a USB Type-C port, a fingerprint sensor that unlocks "faster than Touch ID", a more compact design with a 3,300mAh battery and dual-SIM supportThe OnePlus 2 will be unveiled tomorrow in virtual reality and could potentially be sold here by a distributor or a telco
