Olympus' New SH-50 is the Most Stabilized Compact Camera in the World

Olympus has just announced what is possibly the world's most stabilized digital compact camera. What they've done is take the advanced 5-axis optical image stabilization from the flagship OM-D E-M5 and put it inside the Stylus SH-50. It's not exactly all the same, you only get 5-axis stabilization when shooting video, when shooting stills and Full-HD video the camera uses only 3-axis image stabilization. That's still one more than most digital cameras which offer dual-axis image stabilization.

That stabilization will come in useful when you use the SH-50's extensive 24x optical zoom (35mm equivalent of 25-600mm) to its maximum, since the longer you zoom the more pronounced camera shake tends to become. The SH-50's other features include the ability to capture a full 16MP still image while shooting Full-HD movies. You can also shoot high-speed movies at 120 frames per second in 720p. It even comes with a touch-sensitive 3" LCD.

The Olympus Stylus SH-50 is expected to arrive in March at an estimated price of US$299.99.
