It has been a few months since we last heard anything about NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, but a leaked slide published on a Chinese blog ChipHell reveals some exciting details of what to expect in 2013.

According to the slide, NVIDIA Tegra 4 will retain the 4-Plus-1 CPU architecture that is first seen on Tegra 3 but comes with four powerful Cortex-A15 CPU cores. Graphics performance is vastly improved with a 72-core GPU, which is stated to be 20 times faster than Tegra 2 and 6 times faster than Tegra 3. It is supposedly built on a 28nm low-power high-K metal gate (HPL) process.

Tegra 4 was initially slated for release in late 2012, but it seems that it could possibly be announced at Consumer Electronics Show 2013 (CES 2013) in January or Mobile World Congress 2013 (MWC 2013) in February. While Google and Samsung were the first to use Cortex-A15 CPUs in the Nexus 10, NVIDIA is likely to be the first to market a processor with five Cortex-A15s. HTC is speculated to launch the world's first phone powered by Tegra 4 in February 2013 alongside its flagship model, the M7.

NVIDIA recently reported a record revenue for third quarter as its Tegra processors are widely used in many mobile phones and tablets today. The company is investing heavily in the mobile market by putting together affordable commodity components in its Tegra 3 processors so as to bring down the overall prices of tablets. 2013 looks set to be another good year for NVIDIA as device manufacturers should be working on models powered by Tegra 4.
