Nikon has added four more Coolpix cameras - P340, AW120, P600, and P530, to its Spring 2014 Coolpix digital camera series. This current crop of cameras (with the exception of the AW120) all feature Nikon's new Dynamic Fine Zoom feature. This new zoom feature is a digital zoom that uses new algorithms to produce more accurate interpolation and thus maintains an acceptable level of detail in images, as compared to standard digital zoom.
This brings up Nikon's compact camera release for this quarter up to eight models, when you include the four models that Nikon released last month (the S6700, the S2800, the L830 and the L330).
This 12-megapixel compact offers a 5x wide-angle to telephoto zoom, and a 10x Dynamic Fine Zoom. With a 1/1.7-inch BSI CMOS sensor, its f/1.8 lens renders photos and Full HD 1080/60i video with stereo sound for clarity in different lighting conditions. A new multifunctional Control Ring helps select functions such as Exposure Compensation, ISO Sensitivity, White Balance Fine Adjustments, Shutter Speed, Aperture, Manual Focus, and Zoom Memory. Weighing about 194g, its lens-shift VR with the new ACTIVE mode helps capture sharp images and videos, while the Coolpix Picture Control system allows image creation settings.
With built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, the P340 lets you transfer images to smart devices and share on social networking sites. Also, Nikon's Wireless Mobile Utility app (available on the App Store and Google Play) enables remote shooting from and automatic transfer to compatible smart devices.
The successor of AW110 features a 5x optical zoom NIKKOR lens, a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, and Wi-Fi support. On top of that, the camera safeguards against outdoor situations with waterproofing to a depth of 18m, shock-proofing that allows the cameras to withstand falls up to approximately 2m, coldproofing to approximately −10°C, and dustproofing compliant with JIS/IEC Class 6 (IP6X).
Employing an EXPEED C2 image-processing engine, it integrates the lens-shift VR function, supports both GPS and GLONASS, and has a built-in world map with Action Map Control that enables the enlargement or reduction of the map by shaking the camera. The AW120 also comes with an altimeter, depth gauge, and atmospheric pressure displayed on the camera monitor and recorded with image data.
Movie recordings are supported for Android devices via the Wireless Mobile Utility app. The rugged camera also offers a Red-eye Reduction function that detects and corrects the red-eye effect in both human and animal subjects during playback.
The AW120 also features pre-autofocus, something not found in its predecessor. The camera will detect camera movement or changes in the scene, thus allowing for faster autofocus since the camera will predict where to focus before users even press the shutter button.
The 16.1-megapixel P600 boasts a 60x optical zoom and 120x Dynamic Fine Zoom, and incorporates lens-shift VR with ACTIVE mode. The new ultra zoom camera includes Wi-Fi capabilities, Eye-Fi support, and the Coolpix Picture Control system. Like the previous two models, it lets you remotely shoot from and automatic transfer to compatible smart devices.
With a dedicated movie record button, you can record Full HD 1080/60i videos with stereo sound. It also allows autofocus and the ability to lock auto exposure during movie recording. Weighing 565g, its shutter-release button is positioned at the inner side and angled such that your index finger naturally reaches it.
Offering a 42x optical zoom and 84x Dynamic Fine Zoom, the 16.1-megapixel compact features the EXPEED C2 image processing system, lens-shift VR with ACTIVE mode, and Coolpix Picture Control system. With its Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a, users can shoot remotely and transfer images to smart devices via the Nikon Wireless Mobility App.
