Now that the fuss about a particular Android phone has died down, it's time for an iOS device to log the spotlight. Yes, this time, we are referring to the allegedly upcoming iPhone 5. The Wall Street Journal has previously reported that the new smartphone will sport a bigger 4-inch screen and leaks of the next-gen iPhone's exterior seem to attest to that. Japanese blog Macotakara has managed to get its hands on its front panel and compared both phones in photos and videos. The photos suggest at a 16:9 style body and 4.07-inch screen.

These findings add on to what we already saw with yesterday's leaked images of the iPhone 5's back plate, comparing the black and white versions. A large part of the back is made out of metal and is framed by black or white trims.

More photos can be found here, including the frame as well - according to 9to5Mac's supply chain sources who obtained these parts, similarly indicated that the new iPhone will be the same width as the current 4 and 4S models but longer. The challenge with increasing the iPhone's screen size is how to keep the resolution roughly the same (so that developers don't have to re-tool their apps) and to keep the pixel density the same so as to retain the Retina branding - keeping the breadth the same and increasing the length will solve this.

9to5Mac -The long rumored smaller dock connector is present, the earphone jack has been moved to the bottom corner of the device (the first time Apple has done this on one of their smartphones), the speaker grills have been redesigned, and there is a new opening between the camera lens and the LED flash.

With Android manufacturers fighting to make a device with the biggest screen size, it is imperative that Apple step up to meet the demands of consumers who prefer their iPhones with bigger screens or at least, different screen size configurations to choose from. A typical Android smartphone now comes with a 4.3 to 4.7-inch screen:

Right now, all iPhones traditionally come with 3.5-inch screens, which is much smaller than the average Android smartphone. Needless to say, it is dwarfed by Samsung Galaxy Note's 5.3-inch touch screen. We’re expecting the new iPhone to be announced alongside iOS 6 at the upcoming WWDC 2012. Other rumored features that we are speculate will make an appearance on the phone, other than a bigger screen, include LTE connectivity and an improved processor.
