One of the greatest annoyances a cyclist can ever experience is having a flat tire. You can have them maintained to such a point that you might as well be hired to maintain NASA rockets, and they still get themselves punctured for no apparent reason. And if you don’t have a car to take it to the shop for repair, it means your rims will suffer damage as well. The solution to this are two types of tires by Nexo North America, the Ever Tires and Nexo Tires.

Ever Tires are tires without air. It’s made of a single polymer blend material, which makes them easier to produce and easier to recycle while being more durable – with a life expectancy of 5,000 miles (approx 8,000km) compared to 3,000 miles (approx. 4,800km) – and almost as smooth a ride as the conventional inflated tires. As an airless tire, it also means you can cycle through sharp rocks and nails without worry.

The problem with the Ever Tires is that it only works with a specialized rim – which you get when you buy it – to accommodate the airless design. The alternative to this is the eponymous Nexo Tires. Also airless, this fits onto existing rims using patented T-bolts that fit under the lip of the standard rim and holds the Nexo Tire in place. They are also cheaper, since you’re not getting the specialized rim of the Ever Tire.

Both the Ever Tire and Nexo Tire are available for pre-order on Kickstarter, and in a variety of sizes to suit your bicycle type. The Nexo Tire is priced at US$75, while the Ever Tire starts from US$76 with differing rim configurations. They are expected to ship in January 2017.
