New Flip Originally Due to Ship

David Pogue of the New York Times reveals that a new Flip camcorder had originally been due to ship, one day after Cisco announced it was killing off the Flip business. The new Flip would have come with a brand new feature:

That new Flip that the product manager showed me was astonishing. It was called FlipLive, and it added one powerful new feature to the standard Flip: live broadcasting to the Internet.

That is, when you’re in a Wi-Fi hot spot, the entire world can see what you’re filming. You can post a link to Twitter or Facebook, or send an e-mail link to friends. Anyone who clicks the link can see what you’re seeing, in real time-thousands of people at once.

Unfortunately, that device will likely never see the light of day, now that Cisco has axed the entire Flip operation and laid off over 500 staff. Check out the entire story (and likely the only account you'll ever hear of the now-dead FlipLive) over at the New York Times.
