Microsoft's Kinect - Perfect Partner for Virtual Fitting Room Experience

Kinect has evolved to much more than just a tool for gaming and is used for a variety of commercial, industrial and research purposes. This time, Microsoft was demoing how Kinect can improve shopping experience virtually to even rival in-store shopping experience.

The virtual shopping front of the future - just choose, grab and view how it fits you!

Using augmented reality to bring you a virtual dressing room right in your home, FaceCake Marketing Technologies worked with Microsoft Kinect department to showcase Swivel. As seen in this photo, Swivel allows users to try a variety of accessories and garments and even mix-match them. Now you can try thousands of items rather than just a handful of items that you’re allowed to bring into a real fitting room. It also eliminates a lot of hassles and stress associated in a busy and occupied store.

This demo has actually been showcased since CES 2012 in January, but with the crowd and limited accessibility to try it there, we were glad that Computex 2012 was a much better platform for us to get up close and personal with how Kinect is enabling various new experiences in an accessible manner that wasn’t possible previously.

Who knows, perhaps within the next decade, this sort of shopping could become the expected norm, greatly shortening the shopping time spent at the store front.
