Microsoft to suspend Windows 10 preview builds briefly as it prepares for the official release

Microsoft has just announced that it’ll be suspending Windows 10 preview builds briefly as it prepares the next build. This upcoming build will be delivered using the same mechanism that the company will use for the public rollout starting July 29. In addition, starting tomorrow, Microsoft will not be delivering any additional ISOs.

Microsoft’s Gabe Aul:

Specifically, this means that in the next 24hrs:

- Builds 10162 and 10166 will no longer be offered over Windows Update, and whatever build you’re on will show as “up to date” if you check for new builds.

- ISOs for build 10162 will be taken down from the http://insider.windows.com site and prerelease keys will no longer activate builds.

According to the latest rumor, Microsoft has signed off Windows 10 Build 10240 as the RTM build. If true, this could be the build OEMs are using to ready their devices for July 29. Of course, with Windows as a service, RTM is really a legacy billing. Microsoft can and will continue to update the OS right up to July 29.
