Microsoft to start rolling out Windows 10 Mobile to some Windows Phone 8.1 devices

After months of bug fixing and updates, Microsoft is at long last ready to release Windows 10 (Mobile) - which is already available to devices like the Lumia 950 and 950XL - to some Windows Phone 8.1 handsets.

To check if your device is eligible, you can use the Upgrade Advisor app. But here’s a list of devices that can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile:

  • Lumia 1520
  • Lumia 930
  • Lumia 640
  • Lumia 640XL
  • Lumia 730
  • Lumia 735
  • Lumia 830
  • Lumia 532
  • Lumia 535
  • Lumia 540
  • Lumia 635 1GB
  • Lumia 636 1GB
  • Lumia 638 1GB
  • Lumia 430
  • Lumia 435
  • BLU Win HD w510u
  • BLU Win HD LTE x150q
  • MCJ Madosma Q501

For Windows Phone 8.1 users, know that certain Windows 10 features like Windows Hello and Continuum require newer hardware, they won’t work on these older devices even after the Windows 10 update. You should also check this list of upgrade requirements and deprecated features.

Additionally, it's probably wise to keep tabs on this list of phones that are eligible for the Insider program. Because if your device isn't even eligible for beta builds, it's unlikely that it'd be supported when the public build is ready.
