Microsoft Office Store Exceeds 1 Million App Downloads; Subscription Model Coming Soon

You may know about the Windows Store, an online app store front on Windows 8 and RT, but do you know about the Office Store? As the name suggests, the Office Store lets you discover apps to add new features to Microsoft’s Office productivity suite, and these apps often interact with external data to bring about a whole new level of insight for your local data. For example, there are social tools for SharePoint, research tools for Word, real-time updating tools from Twitter for Outlook, and data analysis tools for Excel. Office Store is available to customers using the latest version of Office and can be accessed directly within Office apps and at Office.com.

In a new blog post over at Office News, Microsoft has detailed some of its plans for the Office Store, which has now seen over 1 million app downloads. For one, starting this spring, it’ll support Chinese, Russian, Dutch, Brazilian (Portuguese), and Italian language apps, alongside the opening of eight additional store fronts (Russia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Brazil). Subscription pricing for apps will also be added soon in October, giving developers yet another choice on how they want to distribute their apps (the other options being free, trial, and paid).
