Micron Samples 16nm 128Gb MLC NAND Memory

Micron has just announced that it is sampling its next-generation 16nm process technology, which will enable 128Gb MLC NAND devices. According to Micron, their new process technology provides the greatest number of bits per square millimeter and the lowest cost of any MLC device. Thanks to this new process technology, Micron also says that nearly 6TB of capacity can now be created on a single wafer.

"Micron's dedicated team of engineers has worked tirelessly to introduce the world's smallest and most advanced Flash manufacturing technology," said Glen Hawk, vice president of Micron's NAND Solutions Group. "Our customers continually ask for higher capacities in smaller form factors, and this next-generation process node allows Micron to lead the market in meeting those demands."

Micron's new 16nm 128Gb MLC NAND is now being sampled with select partners and should see full production later next year. The company is also developing a new line of SSDs that it hopes will ship later next year too.
