M1 and StarHub Do Not Rule Out Possibility of Introducing Customizable Mobile Plans

Following SingTel's announcement of its Easy Mobile plans today, we've reached out to M1 and StarHub on whether they have plans to introduce similar services in the near future.

Mr. Chua Hian Hou, Assistant General Manager for Corporate Communications at M1 stated that the telco will review its current range of plans to ensure they remain relevant. He also pointed out the fact that M1 was the first to introduce a fully customizable mobile plan in 2008. Below is his official statement:

“M1 was the first in 2008 to offer our DIY Plan, a fully customisable mobile plan that enables customers to choose the combination of voice, messaging, data and other value-added services they want. In addition, M1’s SunLite plan gives customers the flexibility of a bundle value which can be used for any combination of voice, messaging, data and IDD calls.

We currently offer a range of plans to cater to our customers’ needs, and we will continue to review them to ensure they remain relevant, including for customers who want to customise their plans.”

Mr. Michael Chang, StarHub's Assistant Vice President of Mobility commented that the telco will not rule out the possibility of launching new mobile plans if there is market demand. Michael also said that StarHub's existing mobile plans are designed to give customers greater value while simplifying the purchase decisions. Below is the official statement from Michael:

"StarHub’s existing suite of mobile plans is primarily designed to provide greater value while simplifying purchase decisions for customers. Our plans offer larger talktime, SMS and data bundles and can be paired with a competitively priced handset.

According to their needs, customers can easily select a plan with more bundled data or one that offers unlimited HD Voice calls and SMS. StarHub advocates innovation to serve customers better. We will continue to listen to our customers and do not rule out launching new mobile plans if there is market demand.”

In a nutshell, both telcos do not rule out the possibility of introducing customizable mobile plans in the near future if there is sufficient demand. It would be interesting to see how M1 and StarHub innovate and bring something different to the table.
