Lucasfilm Singapore's New High Tech Sandcrawler Inspired Office

Architecture firm Aedas and Lucasfilm Singapore have released details of their new regional head offices inspired by the Sandcrawler vehicle first seen in A New Hope.

The new building will be getting rid of that outdated rusty metal and replacing it instead with a high tech double layer of low-iron glass with an underlying metallic frit-dot layer. The dual layers will produce a chromed exterior effect that will still allow daylight through without overheating and turning into a greenhouse inside.

The structure will actually only look like a Sandcrawler from one angle. Viewed from the top, the building is built in a horseshoe shape with a large garden planted in the middle courtyard area.

Equipped with a 100-seat theater and state-of-the-art digital production facilities, the structure will be one of the most advanced in Asia and is due to be completed in 2012.
