Logitech Unveils Harmony Touch Universal Remote
Logitech, mostly known for their audio and visual peripherals, has added a new model to their lineup of Harmony universal remote controls. As inferred by the model name, the Harmony Touch will feature a 2.4-inch color touchscreen with tapping, scrolling, or swiping functions for up to 50 channel icons.
The Harmony Touch isn't the company's first touch-based universal remote. Comparatively, the older Harmony 1100 Advanced features a larger 3.5-inch color touchscreen. In addition, the 900 and the One Advanced models under the Harmony namesake carry a full-color touchscreen as well. Unlike the latter two, however, the Harmony Touch's playback controls have been relocated to the top of the device, while the touchscreen is situated in the middle of the ergonomic clicker. The D-pad and TV controls are found just below the touchscreen.
According to Logitech's press release, the relatively compact remote can be used to manage up to fifteen home entertainment devices, including Blu-ray players, HDTVs, and AV receivers. It's also compatible with more than 225,000 AV devices from more than 5,000 brands. A charging station is included to power the remote. Do note that it's an IR-based controller, unlike the more expensive RF-flavored Harmony 900 designed to control devices even through cabinet doors.
The Logitech Harmony Touch will be available in the U.S. and Europe in early October 2012 at a suggested retail price of US$249.99. There's no word about its availability here as yet, but rest assured we'll keep you posted.
