LG to unveil G Flex 2 with Snapdragon 810 at CES 2015?

 The LG G Flex is due for a refresh as it was announced back in October 2013.

CES 2015 starts next week and reports of upcoming phone launches are coming in fast. The latest from the rumor mill has it that LG is unveiling the successor to its G Flex smartphone at the annual tech show.

According to Korean site Naver, LG is almost ready to make an official announcement of the G Flex 2 at CES 2015 next week. In addition, Naver is able to confirm the G Flex 2 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and features 4G LTE-A connectivity with tri-band carrier aggregation.

What tri-band carrier aggregation means is the device can receive three different frequency bands and combine them into a single connection to support CAT 6 network speeds of up to 300Mbps. According to research firm Ovum, tri-band carrier aggregation is not about selling speeds to the end users. This new telecommunications technology will help address congestion on the network; instead of having three smaller pipes, the telco has one big pipe for mobile data traffic. The end result is a smoother experience for more users.

The G Flex 2 is previously alleged to sport a smaller display with a higher display resolution. The current G Flex has a 6-inch 720p display, which we found to be grainy in our review. 

It's time for LG to give the G Flex a refresh as the device was unveiled in October 2013. Moreover, rival Samsung announced an upgraded Galaxy Note 4 a few days ago which it claims to be the world's first LTE Advanced tri-band carrier aggregation smartphone.

We'll soon find out which of these rumors are true as the HardwareZone team will be reporting direct from Las Vegas - home of the annual CES tech show - next week.
