The LG G6 may not come with a modular design

LG may ditch the modular design of the G5 next year.

One of the main highlights of the LG G5 is the modular design, which allows users to swap the bottom bunk out for other functional attachments such as the Cam Plus and Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY. However, LG may ditch this design for the G6 flagship smartphone next year.

According to ETNews, anonymous sources claim that the LG G6 is likely to sport a traditional smartphone design with no support for add-on modules. The sales of the G5 and its add-on modules did not perform as well as expected, and G5 users shared that changing the modules was not very convenient. LG has not made a formal decision yet as there are some concerns about ceasing the modular strategy and alienating the current G5 users.

The future of smartphones with modular designs is still uncertain. While Lenovo has joined the party with the Moto Z, Google cancelled its Project Ara modular smartphone after numerous delays and setbacks.
