Lexus unveils its hoverboard and it's literally smoking
The past few months have been great to Back to the Future fans. Not only are there now real hoverboards (like the Hendo Hoverboard or Mr Hoverboard) and the Powerlace self-tying shoes (which sadly failed to meets its Kickstarter goal). Nike is reportedly also working on self-tying shoes for release this year, but until we're wearing a pair, color us skeptical.
Hoverboards on the other hand, are real. We've seen the legendary Tony Hawk himself try out the Hendo Hoverboard, and the Mr Hoverboard plans are free available online, Now, Lexus is showing off its on take on the technology and it's a bit different from the others. Take a look at the video and see if you can see what it is.
Yup, the board is smoking. Unlike the other boards, the Lexus hoverboard uses liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors as part of the technology that makes the hoverboard. Sadly, the Lexus hoverboard shares one of the main downfalls of the Hendo Hoverboard; it needs a metal track underneath whatever surface you're using the board on.
The Lexus hoverboard has been in development for the past 18 months, according to Engadget. It features the iconic Lexus spindle grille, and uses material from their car manufacturing, including bamboo.
Lexus will be showing off more of the hoverboard in the coming weeks, and you can keep up to date with through their Facebook page and Twitter.
