This is the letter Bill Gates sent to employees on Microsoft's 40th anniversary

Microsoft has had a important role to play in the history of computing and indeed modern civilization. For so many of us, our first interaction with a PC was on one that ran Windows. And for those who are older, MS-DOS. Think about it, how many important discoveries, letters, notes, documents, literature were created, drafted or made possible because of a machine running Windows?

Over the weekend, the company celebrated its 40th anniversary and the computing landscape now cannot be more different than it was four decades ago. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates readily admits this. However, he remains confident that Microsoft has got what it takes to see things through and remain as one of the major and relevant players in the field.

In a letter addressed to employees, which was sent on the 40th anniversary of the company, Gates also remarked that he was impressed by the numerous innovations such as HoloLens and Cortana and that he is thinking more about the future than of the past and also that he is confident in Satya's leadership.

"Today though, I am thinking much more about Microsoft's future than its past. I believe computing will evolve faster in the next 10 years than it ever has before. We already live in a multi-platform world, and computing will become even more pervasive. We are nearing the point where computers and robots will be able to see, move, and interact naturally, unlocking many new applications and empowering people even more."
