Leaked Photos of Huawei’s Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 Revealed (Update)

Update: Newer leaked photos show a better angle of the Huawei Ascend W1 devices, which will reportedly be available in both white and blue. Based on its specs, it will probably be fighting head-to-head with the Windows Phone 8S by HTC and the Nokia Lumia 820 in the more affordable WP8 range. It is expected to make its debut at the Consumer's Electronic Show next year, alongside other Android heavyweights like Samsung and Sony.


With Nokia, HTC and Samsung showing off their love for the new Windows Phone 8 operating system, Huawei has finally got something to show on its end. Japanese website Blog of Mobile has published images of an alleged Huawei Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 device. As reported earlier, the phone will be launched in Q4 2012 with global availability in Q1 2013. Rumored specs include:

• 1.2GHz dual-core processor
• 4-inch WVGA display (800 x 480 resolution)
• 5-megapixel rear camera
• VGA resolution front camera
• 512MB of RAM
• 4GB of internal storage
• NFC
• 2,000mAh battery

As we have noticed from the current bevy of announced WP8 devices, the Huawei W1 resembles both Lumia WP8 series and the Windows Phone 8 series by HTC in such that it showcases a smooth unibody-like and neon-colored chassis. In terms of specs, we would put it around mid-range, specifically similar to the Windows Phone 8S by HTC.
