Leading Singaporean Businesses Are Boosting Online Consumer Confidence with VeriSign

Singapore Flyer, SISTIC, Tiger Airways and DBS have Adopted the Latest Advances in Internet Security to Provide Visual Reassurance to Consumers

With 37 percent of Singaporean consumers perceiving shopping online as unsafe, leading businesses in Singapore are embracing the latest advances in Internet security from VeriSign to build trust and improve consumer confidence.

“Convenience is one of the main motivators behind people shopping online, but whether a customer feels safe or not plays a major role in how a web site is used, how much activity is conducted online and how enjoyable their experience is,” said Jim Drake, General Manager for Asia Pacific, VeriSign.

In addition, a recent survey commissioned by VeriSign revealed that 83 percent of web users in Singapore are at risk from online fraud because they cannot identify the different forms of phishing currently online.

With this in mind, leading businesses in Singapore with online services, such as Singapore Flyer, Tiger Airways, SISTIC and DBS, are all recognising the importance of providing an easy and reliable way to show customers that their web sites are legitimate and transactions are safe from potential threats. All have deployed VeriSign Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificates to provide more secure online services and increase consumer confidence.

“It is our responsibility to take the guesswork out of security for our customers and provide them with immediate reassurance, which in turn will encourage them to purchase our flight offerings online, safely, with us," said Mr Jeff Tan, Director of Sales & Marketing at Singapore Flyer. “Our online ticketing sales portal has been enhanced with VeriSign's EV SSL Certificates, providing visual cues that immediately inform our customers that their transaction is encrypted and that our site is authentic.”

When Internet users equipped with current versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Opera and other browsers visit a web site protected by EV SSL Certificates, the top of the browser lights up in green and displays the name of the company operating the site. This green glow offers immediate reassurance that they have reached a site whose authenticity has been verified by a certificate authority such as VeriSign, the world‟s leading SSL certificate authority.

“We want to assure customers that they can purchase tickets online with complete confidence,” said Shawn Quek, Head, IT Services at SISTIC. “We have taken every possible measure to ensure the security of their transactions by deploying VeriSign EV SSL Certificates as one of our standard security services.”

“As the largest bank in Singapore, security and the integrity of our customers‟ data is of utmost importance to us,” said Sandeep Lal, Managing Director of Consumer Banking Group eBusiness, DBS Bank. “In addition to our „money safe‟ guarantee, working with a trusted organisation like VeriSign gives our Internet banking customers added protection and greater peace of mind when transacting online.”

As the most respected and trusted SSL authority on the Web, VeriSign is the EV SSL Certificate provider of choice for more than 19,000 online businesses. In fact, 93 percent of the Fortune 500 and 97 of the world's 100 largest SSL-using banks secure their sites with SSL Certificates sold by VeriSign.
