"Irregularly-sized" batteries and manufacturing issues caused the Note7 fires?
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) claims to have insider information on the results of the Galaxy Note7 investigations which Samsung is going to share on 23 January.
People familiar with the matter told the WSJ that there are two causes of the Galaxy Note7 fires. The first cause is the batteries manufactured by Samsung SDI. This forced Samsung to switch to another battery supplier, Hong Kong-based Amperex Technology and increase production to meet the needs of the replacement program. Unfortunately, the increased production caused several unknown "manufacturing issues" to creep into the Galaxy Note7.
Samsung has also worked with three independent quality-control and supply-chain analysis firms on the investigation. Reuters reported a few days ago that the battery is the main cause of the fires. Now, it seems that "irregularly-sized" batteries and manufacturing issues are to be blamed.
