Interactive Live Tiles for Windows 10 and universal apps for Xbox One coming soon?
Microsoft’s annual Build developer conference starts this week, and looking at the sessions available, it looks like we may be seeing interactive Live Tiles in Windows 10 soon.
According to the description for the session ‘What’s New for Tiles and Toast Notifications’, Microsoft will introduce “a powerful API that enables a new class of apps to plug into the Notification pipeline and provide innovative experiences for users”. Also, Live Tiles will be getting “two highly-requested surprises that you won’t want to miss”. Interactive, actionable Live Tiles, anyone?
Also, based on the fact that there will be a session on ‘Building Great Universal Windows Platform (UWP) Apps for Xbox’, it’s almost certain that Microsoft will be sharing more details on UWP app creation and deployment for Xbox One. UWP apps on Xbox One has always been the goal, though it was only recently at the Game Developers Conference that Microsoft confirmed it’s happening this summer.
Other noteworthy sessions at Build include:
- Build Smarter and More Engaging Experiences with Microsoft’s Intelligent Services - More Project Oxford APIs and SDKs?
- Something Awesome This Way Comes! - Maybe it’s time to reveal what the Linux subsystems files in the Windows 10 test builds are for?
- Here’s How You Can Build Your Own Smart Bot - Did anyone say Tay?
- (Update, Mar 29) Running Bash on Ubuntu on Windows! (hat tip to @h0x0d on Twitter) - I repeat: running Bash on Ubuntu on Windows, as in (I hope) inside a real Linux environment, not through VM or Cygwin.
At Build 2016, Microsoft is also expected to talk about the latest progress on the HoloLens and its recent acquisition of Xamarin.
I'll be at Build 2016, so keep your eyes peeled on HardwareZone.
