Intel to Roll Out StudyBook Tablet for Emerging Markets

Aimed at emerging markets, including China and Brazil, Intel's StudyBook tablet will feature a 10-inch panel together with Intel's Medfield platform. The StudyBook is also said to be capable of running dual operating systems. According to sources from PC players, it will employ the same sales model as the Classmate PC.

The sources pointed out that Intel's Classmate PC project has been operating for about five years and the company has already established a partnership with many emerging countries. The StudyBook tablet PC will be released in the second half of 2012 and in addition to the education procurement market, Intel also hopes to push the product into regular retail channels priced below US$299.

ECS, the OEM of Classmate PC, is assumed to construct the StudyBook for Intel whereas China-based Malata will also take the tablet PC orders from Intel.

A 10.1-inch Classmate PC featuring the Atom N2600 processor and Windows 7 has already been launched by Intel and Lenovo in Argentina. Priced at US$300 to US$400, orders for some 158,000 units have already been received in the South American country.
