Intel Introduces mSATA SSD 525 Series for Ultrabooks
Intel has just announced its mSATA solid state drive 525 series that is targeted at ultrabooks and low-power embedded applications. It is also the company's first drive series in the mSATA form factor to feature the SATA 6Gbps interface.
According to Softpedia, the new mSATA SSD utilizes the same SandForce SF-2281 controller as the Intel SSD 520 series. In terms of performance, the SSD 525 series is on par with the earlier mentioned 2.5-inch counterpart. According to the technical specifications of the Intel SSD 525 series, they have sequential read and write speeds of 550 and 520 MB/s, respectively, with random read and write performance of up to 50,000 and 80,000 IOPS (Input/Output Operations per Second).
The new mSATA SSD drive also features the company's 25nm MLC NAND flash storage and will be available in 30GB, 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB and 240GB capacities. The company has begun shipping the 120GB and 180GB SKUs, with additional capacities in volume shipments to follow this quarter. The SSDs all feature Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 128-bit encryption and are backed up by Intel’s 5-year limited warranty.
