Intel Claims New Y-Series Haswell Chips Offer Vastly Improved Battery Life
Intel recently announced that it will be shipping its new Y-Series fourth generation (Haswell) processors later in the year. These low-powered chips require even less power than the U-Series chips found in Ultrabooks, and are meant for tablets and hybrid PCs.
Intel claims that devices running the 4.5W scenario design power (SDP) processors will get as much as nine hours of battery life, and will not require fans to be built on devices. Meanwhile, devices which require a little bit more power will be using 6W Y-Series chips, and will have fans built-in.
The current batch of Haswell processors that have already been launched, are living up to expectations when it comes to improving battery performance. We've also reviewed their onboards graphics performance so see if these chips live up to their promise of replacing discrete graphics. You can check out the results here.
