Ideum Unveils 65-inch MT65 Multi-touch Display
Large-screen displays with multi-touch goodness are alive and well, as far as we can tell. Judging by the recent influx, Samsung has given the Microsoft Surface a new lease of life with the 40-inch SUR40, while HP stepped things up a notch with the 132-inch VantagePoint. Technically, the latter is pieced together with six 47-inch HP LD4730 displays in essence. Ideum, however, has just invoked the 65-inch MT65 Presenter Multi-touch Wall which may attract the boardroom junkies with its sweet sizing, noteworthy hardware, and of course, its even sweeter price.
The MT65 Presenter will present a Core i7 quad-core workhorse and Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 GPU. Memory wise, it has 8GB of DDR3 RAM to help its cause with a 256GB SSD for storage. The HP VantagePoint has a 1536p resolution but if all you need is a Full-HD screen, then the MT65 should do nicely with its 1080p face. Other specs include a brightness rating of 500 cd/m2 and LED backlights with a rated 50,000-hour lifespan. Besides its 3D perks, the Ideum MT65 also houses an auto-focus camera with Carl Zeiss lenses. Wireless connectivity will encompass 802.11bgn and Bluetooth. At the software end, the Presenter is currently running on a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional edition. Open-source enthusiasts, on the other hand, can look forward to the Linux version which will be made available in March.
Priced at only $17,450, the MT65 will be retailing at a fraction of the VantagePoint, which costs a whopping $125,000 for those who're willing to fork out that kind of money for a professional-grade HP workstation. Ideum's panel is also visibly larger than the Samsung SUR40, which makes it a suitable go-between size among the three recent models.
