ICS Wins Gold Prize for Best Platform Experience

Today marks another milestone for Google as its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) was awarded the Gold Prize for best platform experience at Parson's 2012 User Experience Awards. As Parsons The New School For Design (also known as Parsons School of Design) is one of the world's most prestigious art and design universities, the win is significant for Google Android as a mobile platform.

Google Android has come a long way since its early days where it was criticized for being an unpolished operating system (OS). Things took a change for the better after Google hired Matias Duarte, who previously worked at Palm and now leads Android's User Experience team.

During the unveiling of Android 4.0 ICS last October, Duarte explained that the new Roboto typeface developed in-house at Google guided the design philosophy of the platform. This led to a cleaner and more refined user interface that emphasizes on easy multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets and deep interactivity.

The Gold Prize for best platform experience is expected to strengthen Google Android's lead as the world's most popular mobile OS, especially when Apple recently announced the new iOS 6 which brings about 200 new features.
