Samsung is experiencing a gold rush for its Galaxy S6 smartphones in Europe as consumers are more willing to try out new colors aside from the usual black and white.

According to Samsung, sales data in Europe reveals one in four consumers (23%) choosing the gold platinum edition of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. While black and white were the primary choice of colors for the past few years, 2015 marks a clear shift in color preferences for consumers in European markets.

Samsung - "Since the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge went on sale last month, we have seen similar demand for Gold Platinum as our more traditional White Pearl and Black Sapphire colour options. We have been surprised by the reaction from the market, which means we are having to intensify our production of Gold Platinum to keep up with demand."

As many people would know by now, there is an explanation behind each color choice. Lifestyle psychologist Donna Dawson shares that consumers who preferred gold over the other colors are aiming for prosperity, financial success and general contentment. Other characteristics include a strong sense of intuition, an outgoing personality and a desire to win.

Donna also explains the psychology behind black and white. Black is associated with individuals who are loners, rebels or "outsiders" and they are also recognized for their individualism and independence. On the other hand, white symbolizes wisdom, honesty and purity. Consumers who chose this color tend to be status-seeking extroverts.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes in an exclusive blue topaz tone while the S6 Edge will be available in green emerald. Samsung is also planning to introduce an "Iron Man" red/gold version next month. Can anyone make a guess what these colors represent?
