Huawei today announced its latest Android smartphone, the Ascend P6 which is also the world's slimmest smartphone at just 6.18mm thin.
The Ascend P6 is encased in an all metal unibody which is not only ultra thin, but also very lightweight at 120g. In comparison, the Apple iPhone 5 measures 7.6mm thin and weighs 112g. Despite the sleek form factor, the phone sports a 4.7-inch HD in-cell LCD display. This trumps the previous record set by ZTE's Grand S of being the slimmest full HD 5-inch smartphone at 6.9mm thin.
Out of the box, the device ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and a newer version of its customized user interface, Emotion 1.6. Running the show is the Hi-Silicon K3V2 quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB RAM and 2,000mAh (non-removable) battery. Although it only has 8GB in-built storage space, you can bump up the storage capacity via a micro-SD card slot to a maximum of 32GB.
One of the Ascend P6's key features include its cameras. It has an 8-megapixel rear-facing BSI camera with F2.0 aperture and 4cm macro view, and a front-facing 5-megapixel camera for taking self portraits. The Ascend P6 comes with its proprietary IMAGESmart software, which provides consumers with an easy way to capture photos through contrast and color enhancement, auto scene recognition, object tracing focus, and instant facial beauty support.
The Huawei Ascend P6 is available in black, white and pink with matching color cases. It will begin shipping to China later this month and to Western Europe from July through Vodafone, Telefonica, Orange, H3G, O2, Carphone Warehouse, TalkTalk, Media Markt & Saturn, TIM and online via Amazon and CDiscount with other markets to follow.
