HTC's next flagship smartphone to sport powerful imaging hardware

HTC currently lags behind its rivals in the mobile imaging aspect, but its upcoming flagship smartphone may help the company close the gap.

According to tipster @LlabTooFeR, HTC's next flagship smartphone will come with a Sony IMX377 12-megapixel image sensor with 1.55um pixel size. This is the same image sensor found on the Huawei Nexus 6P, which in our review, assessed to be great. Other rumored imaging specs include laser autofocus, phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilization.

As for the front camera, HTC is said to be using a Samsung S5K4E6 5-megapixel image sensor with 1.34 micropixel pixel size. Both rear and front-facing cameras will be branded "UltraPixel", a marketing buzzword created by HTC to promote the One in 2013.

HTC will be giving Mobile World Congress 2016 a miss this year as it is rumored to be holding a separate launch event in April.
