HTC did not unveil its next One (Hima) flagship smartphone at CES 2015; it was a new member of the Desire family, the Desire 826 which took the limelight at the press conference.

In one way or the other, you can consider the Desire 826 a hybrid of the Desire Eye and the One (M8) in a larger form factor. It comes in two models with different imaging hardware:

  • One model with a 13-megapixel rear camera, f/2.2 aperture and an UltraPixel (4-megapixel) front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture
  • One model with a 13-megapixel rear camera, f/2.2 aperture and a 13-megapixel f/2.0 front-facing camera

This is the first time that HTC brought the UltraPixel sensor to the front where it was previously used at the rear on the One (M8), One (M7), One Mini and One Max.

Other specs of the Desire 826 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core 1.7GHz 64-bit processor, 2GB RAM, 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4G LTE connectivity, 2,600mAh battery, Android 5.0 Lollipop, HTC Sense with Eye Experience software, BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby Audio and a 7.99mm thin chassis which weighs 183g. Do note that the Desire 826 uses the nano-SIM standard.

There are more than three color options for the Desire 826 starting with White Birch, Blue Lagoon and Purple Fire. Availability of the different colors and models will vary by region.

The Desire 826 will be available with mobile operators and major retailers in Asia-Pacific at the end of the month and will be rolled out in the other regions over the next few months.
