Android and Chrome OS devices may run smoother in the future as Google is embarking on an ambitious program to eliminate the perceived lags.

According to Googler Francois Beaufort, the company is currently using a robot built by Finnish firm OptoFidelity to "measure end-to-end latency of Android and Chrome OS devices". Beaufort posted a high speed video of how the robot taps the screen regularly to measure the response rate. The robot is said to be smart enough to detect the hardware and/or software factors which are responsible for the lags.

If you recall, Google has tried to address the perceived lags on its Android platform in 2012 with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Codenamed Project Butter, it is a processing framework aimed to improve the touch accuracy and responsiveness of the Android experience.
