Following Google's release of its "Best of 2016" content on the Play Store, Apple also unveiled its list of top content across the App Store, iTunes and iBooks. Here are some notable mentions:
Apple Music
- Top song and album spots on Apple Music - Drake's "One Dance" and Views
App of the Year
- Prisma for the iPhone
- Sketchbook Motion for the iPad
- Twitter for the Apple TV
- MySwimPro - Personal Swim Trainer for the Apple Watch
- Bear for the Mac
Game of the Year
- Clash Royale for the iPhone
- Severed for the iPad
- Riptide GP: Renegade for the Apple TV
- Field Day for the Apple Watch
- Life Is Strange for the Mac
Apple also mentioned that Snapchat is the most downloaded free iPhone app while Pokémon GO lands on both the charts of the iPhone and iPad. Some of the top paid iPhone apps are FaceTune, Heads Up!, 7 Minute Workout Challenge, KIMOJI and Geometry Dash. As for the iPad, Minecraft: Pocket Edition is the most downloaded paid app and YouTube is the top free app.
The top-selling films on iTunes Movies include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Deadpool, Spotlight and The Hateful Eight. The top sellers on iTunes TV are Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and Downton Abbey.
As for podcasts, Fresh Air from NPR is the top download of the year. For iBooks, If I Was Your Girl. The Girl on the Train is the top-seller in fiction and audiobook, while When Breath Becomes Air is the best-selling nonfiction title.
