Xiaomi's range of affordable yet feature-packed smartphones are making a mark in the industry.
Based on a report by Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Technology Market Research, Xiaomi's two recent smartphones - the 4.7-inch Redmi and 5.0-inch Mi 3 - are ranked 7th and 10th respectively in the list of top 10 global best selling smartphones for the month of February 2014. The Apple iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C clinched the top two positions while Samsung's smartphones dominated the rest of the chart.
It is noteworthy to mention that the sales of the Redmi and Mi 3 were initially limited to the Chinese market and only recently expanded to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. Moreover, the other phones in the chart are sold in more international markets. This not only indicates how big the Chinese consumer market is, it also shows how Xiaomi's market strategy of selling its smartphones at low cost paid off handsomely for the company.
With all three Android powerhouses - HTC, Samsung and Sony - releasing their flagship smartphones this month, it will be interesting to see how the rankings will change in the coming months. Xiaomi is going to give a tough fight too with the recent launch of its first phablet, the 5.5-inch Redmi Note which will be available in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore in May.
