G.Skill has hit a new milestone at the Intel Developer Forum 2015 in San Francisco, showcasing live demos of two ultra-high speed DDR4 memory kits running on an air-cooled system. Both memory kits were paired with Intel Z170 motherboards and the latest sixth-generation Skylake processors to demonstrate the capabilities of the latest generation of hardware.

The DDR4 4266MHz 8GB (2x4GB) kit was installed on an ASRock Z170 OC Formula motherboard, in conjunction with an Intel Core i7-6700K processor.

The lower-clocked DDR4 4133MHz 8GB (2x4GB) kit used to same processor, but was paired with an ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero motherboard instead.

According to G.Skill, these are the fastest DDR4 memory speeds ever achieved on live air-cooling demo systems. DDR4 memory speeds over 4000MHz are usually achievable only with liquid nitrogen cooling, as seen in this short, 10-second video showing an open test bench caked in ice. The Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4 kit in that video managed to hit a frequency of 4351MHz, which is just slightly higher than the 4266MHz achieved on G.Skill’s air-cooled demo systems.
