During this eight-week long campaign, which runs from 05 December 2016 to 27 January 2017, the participating Newstead retail outlets will act as e-waste collection centers. Only working and resalable computing devices like PCs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones are eligible for cash vouchers trade-in, and the value of these vouchers will be equivalent to the trade-in value of the abovementioned devices. Consumers are free to combine any amount of these cash vouchers, in a single receipt, to purchase new items at any Newstead Technologies stores.

The company will donate 20% of the trade-in value of the recyclable computing equipment to Touch Community Services. Its charity services help children from unprivileged households through education and social support. Besides supporting charity, Newstead Technologies also wants to encourage e-recycling and responsible disposal of electronic waste.

As an added service, the company has partnered with PC Dreams, who will securely wipe all data from collected computing devices. The original owners of these devices will be sent a notification SMS once their data has been securely wiped.

Besides computing devices, the campaign also accepts PC components like motherboards, expansion cards, and chassis for e-waste disposal. This also applies to PC accessories like keyboards, mouse, input devices and many other peripherals. However, this group of equipment are not eligible for trade-in and have no resale value. In return for disposing of these equipment responsibly, Newstead will exchange them for a discount voucher booklet that can be used at their stores for new purchases.

Mindy Tan, Chief Executive Officer, Newstead Technologies said, “Improper disposal of e-waste is not only harmful for the environment, your personal data can be at risk. Our 12 stores are conveniently located for everyone to visit and take part in this campaign. We hope Singaporeans will find it easy to e-waste recycle this time and make it a habit to do so. Every one of us has this old computer sitting at home, why not recycle it and do your bit for charity this year.”

Newstead Technologies will store all collected e-waste items securely before turning them over a local R2 standard recycling company that will dispose of those devices as e-waste according to NEA’s guidelines.
