Three years after initiating the Nexus range of smartphones as the reference platform for Android vendors, Google may be finally working on a similar strategy to introduce the first Nexus-branded tablet within the next six months.

According to SlashGear, Google chairman Eric Schmidt revealed these details during an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sea. Schmidt went on further to discuss at great lengths about the late Steve Jobs' efforts in changing the industry. He also confirmed that Google will leverage on its voice recognition technology to compete with Apple's Siri.

SlashGear - “In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality” Schmidt told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sea, while also confirming that Google plans to leverage its voice recognition technology to better challenge Apple’s Siri.

As Schmidt gave no other information about the upcoming tablet , it is anybody's guess as to what and how Google plans to go about doing it. The acquisition of Motorola Mobility is one possible area where Google can leverage on its hardware specializations to develop the Nexus tablet. The other possibility is assigning a particular Android vendor such as Samsung and HTC to spearhead the project.
