Google Takes On Spotify With New Paid Subscription Music Service

Google's Chris Yerga introduces Google Play All Access

Kicking off Google's I/O conference, Google has announced Google Play All Access, a paid subscription streaming music service that looks set to challenge Spotify.

Google Play All Access essentially works like Spotify, letting users stream songs on-demand to their computer or Android device. The service is built on Google's already existing music store on Google Play and will recommend music and artists to users based on music they already own.

An interesting feature of Google Play All Access is how it handles radio-style play. Any song you listen to can be tapped and turned into a radio station, creating an endless playlist of related music. You can then check out the suggested playlist, and customize it to your liking by swiping away songs you don't like, or even rearrange the playlist order. Google is calling this "Radio without rules."

Any song can be turned into an endless playlist of related songs that you can then customize to your liking.

Unlike Spotify, there appears to be no free version of Google Play All Access, with the service priced at US$9.99 a month with a 30-day free trial. The service is available in the US from today, with additional countries rolling out soon.
