The Google Play Store is now better at recognizing and deleting fake reviews

Google has  rolled out upgraded detection and filtering tech that should do a better job at stopping apps that have manipulated their way to the top of the ranking boards through fraudulent installs, fake reviews, and incentivized ratings.

According to Google "if an install is conducted with the intention to manipulate an app's placement on Google Play, our systems will detect and filter it. Furthermore, developers who continue to exhibit such behaviors could have their apps taken down from Google Play."

These upgrades come in the wake of one of the worst malware trojans in recent years. In September this year it was discovered that as many as 500,000 people had downloaded the CallJam malware trojan from the Google Play Store. The malware, which poses as a guide to earning Gem Chests in Clash Royale had been available on Google’s official Play Store since May and maintained a high reputation throughout, with a four-star review rating average, and thousands of five-star reviews. The malware was able to do this by asking its users to rate it 5 stars with the promise of unlocking additional content.
